It is maintained by the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO). The PDF format is now a standard open format that isn’t just available under Adobe Acrobat. The format has evolved to allow for editing and interactive elements like electronic signatures or buttons. It was developed by Adobe so people could share documents regardless of which device, operating system, or software they were using, while preserving the content and formatting. PDF stands for ‘Portable Document Format’ file. Contact files from Outlook that are saved/exported into MSG format would include whatever contact information had been entered, while calendar items would include the time, date and location of the meeting or diary item, plus any extra information. The files can also include email attachments. Like the EML format, MSG email files include a header with the email subject, the sender and receiver, and the date and time the email was sent, as well as the body of the message. However, as well as email messages, Outlook will also save contact and calendar items into MSG format. MSG is short for ‘message’, which is what the files are. MSG files can be opened within Outlook, but also with other some other applications. Microsoft Outlook can be accessed online with internet browsers, or through software applications, which are available for all the main operating systems.

The MSG file format was developed by Microsoft for its Outlook email program.
